# I also just noticed these bugs on my pink dragon alocasia babies.…

_Pubblicato da Gabriela il 2024-03-29_

I also just noticed these bugs on my pink dragon alocasia babies. These plants are covered up with plastic for humidity reasons (see first picture). I went to mist them and noticed some things crawling… Please tell me they’re not thrips 🥲 They had a blue-ish appearance and were noticeable to the naked eye.

If they are, they are the first sign of these bugs that I’ve noticed. Any advice for treating them??

it kinda looks like thrips. i’ve treated them before with just some neem oil and they’ve bounced back fine

I agree, definitely looks like thrips.

Isolate your plant, treat aggressively as these can be an absolutely nightmare. You’ll need to treat the plant and the soil due to their life cycle and you’ll need to repeat the treatment multiple times to ensure you’ve got them at all their stages of growth.

If this plant has been touching or close to other plants then just assume they all have them and treat accordingly. Monitor everyone in the area very closely for the next month to ensure they’re not infected as well.

I agree with everything GreenLeaf stated. It looks like thrips. I’ve treated my plants in the past by adding Bonide Systemic granules to the soil and then spraying the plants with captain Jacks dead bug brew and alternating with a mixture of water/neem oil/pure Castile soap; I alternate between both sprays because I’ve read they can quickly develop resistance to the sprays after a couple treatments. Isolate and treat for a few weeks.

I have been using neem oil and a copper fungicide with weekly sprays for the past month to treat black spot on my many plants (what a pain in the tutu!). This sounds like it may cause resistance to the sprays, is that correct? Can you tell me what percentages of the name oil?

Continuing my post (as we went over a bump in the road, and I accidentally sent my text😡), what are the percentages of your mixture of water/neem oil/Castile soap? What is your recommendation for treating black spot without developing spray resistance, THX in advance for any advice.

Thrips🥲. The easiest way to get rid of them is a systemic pesticide along with checking the leaves daily, wiping off any thrips that you spot and cleaning the leaves with horticultural soap or need oil. Also isolate your plant and don’t touch any other plant after handling it without washing your hands.

I got rid of mine within 2 weeks doing this🤞🏻.

Neem oil\*

Thanks everyone for your help! Been treating for the past month or so and I haven’t seen any new eggs/adults. Hopefully it stays that way 🙏🏽
