This is by far the hardest plant to take care of for me. She was originally grown from a small prop, became HUGE and happy, then all of a sudden started getting leggy. I clipped and propped and planted, and none took root. I left it alone, some new vines grew so I tried putting it in water. Same thing- long vines so leaves, always dying back.

Please please help me figure out how to keep this wandering Jude alive. She’s so gorgeous but we just don’t vibe 😭 I know I’m doing something wrong.

I had something similar happen to me when I tried to prop directly back into the soil. I would say it looks under watered. I have found propagating in water has been super fast and really successful to me. My plant throws leaves off like crazy when it’s dry so I would say more frequent watering!

I just took these out of water and repotted them. Maybe it’s time for me to start over and adopt a clipping from Home Depot or Lowe’s lolol

Probably too dry tbh, I’m becoming more confident about my watering schedules now.

i would personally grow cuttings in water and wait for there to be significant rooting. tradescantias have thin, delicate roots and even though they root easily, soil propogations dont work for me. once they are rooted you should put the cuttings into a much smaller pot than the one your using. not more than 2 inches wider than the plant. add more perlite to your soil mix so the roots get more oxygen. this should also encourage more leaf growth. it is common for this plant to get leggy. but this is what i have tried and it works for me

I had this problem too! One thing I’ve found - after killing a lot of cuttings 😭 - if I pin the cut stems onto the soil instead of trying to bury them, the roots take off without getting a wet/rotten stem. I just a paper clip or Bobby pin stretched out and it works great. This is how I’ve been encouraging root growth on my satin pothos (example shown). For the tradescantia: I just turn the long stems into the soil, pin them near a node and wait for the delicate roots to take hold. 😊 I wish you success! You’ve got this 😊

Mine did the same. The plans used to be huge and I cut it way back, propagated The cuttings, and then replant the whole entire plant died.
