# All of my “large” plants are dripping water from the edges of all…

_Posted by Nikiller on 2026-07-18_

All of my “large” plants are dripping water from the edges of all their leaves. I’ve heard that this is normally just due to the roots taking up more water than the leaves need and can be normal but these plants all started doing it within an hour of each other. It started with my regal shield dripping just from the very tip of the oldest leaf, then it slowly was dripping from the entire edge of every leaf. Then my Thai con started doing it about 30 minutes after the regal shield got to the full drip. Then one of my 4 deliciosa started after the Thai conn. Then another, each one after the other until they’re all dripping. My alocasia polly isn’t dripping but it’s 1/8th the size of the regal. I watered the regal shield 2 days ago, but none of the monsteras since Monday. If it was just a little water at the edge of the tips I’d not worry but it’s starting to make big enough puddles under the leaves that it’s almost like I sprayed them down extra heavy either a water mister

It’s called transpiration , it is the process of water movement through the plant from aerial parts such as leaves , stems and flowers. It is a passive process and requires no energy from the plant. It enables mass flow of nutrients. The plants close pores automatically to decrease water loss. Then the nutrient stops flowing and the plant stops “sweating”

This is what google told me I just put it into my own words

it's common for plants of similar size in the same environment to "synchronize" like you're describing. there's not anything we can see or do that's triggering the guttation, they're just all in the same conditions and decided to do that for whatever reason. could maybe be a high humidity thing? plants are weird organisms lol

Maybe your indoor humidity is higher than you think? My regal shield often has little drops on the leaf tips but not enough to drip a puddle. Could you take a picture of the plants?

It did storm really really bad yesterday and raised the humidity outside to like 180% or something crazy but these are all indoor. They’re producing the water from even just the middles of some veins, it’s just so much water I wasn’t expecting it

The humidifier I have running is programmed to get to 60% and maintain that. It never ever gets past 56% because our ac pumps out dry air all the time, so it shouldn’t be super humid inside.
