# Multiple plants have died due to some sort of fungus/mold on top of…

_Postat av RootedAF den 2025-02-14_

Multiple plants have died due to some sort of fungus/mold on top of the soil. I’m not sure why this is happening or how to avoid it. Could it be something in my room? Anyone experienced this before? Before and after photos of two plants.

Normally white mold is a good sign of a healthy soil that is contributing to the health of the plant. If it was me, I would repot those plants, throw away or disinfect the soil with boiling water. Make sure your soil is getting dry between waterings

Thanks. I will try that. I’ve used two different types of soil in the past and both times I’ve experienced white mold.

I think I’ll propagate the peperomia to try and save it. Appreciate the feedback

It’s not a mold issue. It likely an overwatering issue and possibly peat moss in the mix staying wet too long. The soil looks decayed/rotten which could feed fungus.

The pots are too big. Over sized pots hold excess soil and water. The small plants can’t dry out the excess water before roots rot. Both pots shoot be half those sizes. Use fresh soil mixed with lots of perlite/orchid bark/coco chunks and little or no peat moss.

I don’t see the stems/vines on the pothos plants. The leaf nodes are where the new leaves will emerge. Plant the nodes at or near the top of the soil to allow the plant to emerge leaves above the slow.

Let the soil dry between waterings. Don’t strictly water per schedule without verifying the soil is dry or almost fully dry. Use a meat skewer, chopstick or similar tool to check for moisture.

Increased air circulation will help deter it too.
