# What the heck is up with my Jade plants soil? My jade plant has been…

What the heck is up with my Jade plants soil? My jade plant has been consistently happy for months as as far as I can see still is, but this is the second time this weird crusty stuff has shown up in the surface of the soil and this time it's allll over when before it was it's along the edge. Help?! Also, the first time it appeared I took a spoon and removed it- it came off in dry hard clumps and didn't feel even a bit moist- even though the soil under was just fine UPDATE: since I've removed it it's come back in this plant and two others- another jade and pothos. the jade has white instead of red, but otherwise everything else is the same, and the pothos is red. I'm thinking it's a problem with the soul I'm using, because with many of my plants that I've repotted, I've used potting soil (probably quite old) found in my garage. (I used soil from the same bag for every plant) The soil consistently takes forever to drain water (and acts hydrophobic) and get whatever this stuff is. I'm gonna work on buying new potting soil, specifically for succulents

Looks like the soil may have stayed wet for too long, this can happen often in the wonder months. Usually, it’s fungal, sometimes it’s mineral build up. Remember to only water your Jade when the leaves are slightly soft/squishy, if they’re firm let it be.

It won’t harm the plant, but it could be a sign that the soil is too wet, and the roots could rot because of that.

Ah, thank you! I've since removed it and it hasn't reappeared again- I'll adjust plantas squedule to water less often
