If it was me, I’d toss it out go buy the cheapest one you can find and pretend nothing happened to your last. I’m not sure about pricing in your area, but they’re only about $10-15 at my local stores. “You can’t truly learn how to keep a plant alive until you’ve found every way to kill it”

Haha thank you but it’s not worth the stress girl🤣 I’m sure if you really tried you could save it, but with how slow zz plants take to grow it’s not worth it (to me atleast)🤣

It looks like your friend’s \*\*ZZ plant\*\* (\*Zamioculcas zamiifolia\*) still has a fighting chance based on the rhizome (the potato-like structure) in the picture! ZZ plants are very hardy and can often recover from tough situations. Here's how your friend can try to bring it back to life:

\### 1. \*\*Check the Rhizome and Roots\*\*:
\- \*\*Healthy Rhizome\*\*: The rhizome (the bulb) is the storage organ for the ZZ plant. If it feels \*\*firm\*\* and \*\*healthy\*\*, the plant has a good chance of recovery. However, if it's soft, mushy, or smells bad, it may be rotting.
\- \*\*Roots\*\*: Inspect the roots. If any roots are \*\*black, mushy, or slimy\*\*, they’re likely rotted and should be trimmed off with sterilized scissors or pruning shears.

\### 2. \*\*Repot in Fresh Soil\*\*:
\- After cleaning up any dead roots, repot the plant in \*\*fresh, well-draining soil\*\*. A \*\*cactus or succulent soil mix\*\* will work well because it drains excess water, which is key for preventing rot in ZZ plants.
\- Make sure the pot has \*\*drainage holes\*\* to avoid water accumulation at the bottom, which can lead to further rot.

\### 3. \*\*Watering\*\*:
\- \*\*Water sparingly\*\*: ZZ plants store water in their rhizomes and are very drought-tolerant. After repotting, wait a few days before watering to let the plant settle. After that, water only when the top few inches of soil are \*\*completely dry\*\*.
\- Overwatering is one of the main causes of root rot in ZZ plants, so keep the watering light.

\### 4. \*\*Lighting\*\*:
\- ZZ plants do well in \*\*low to bright, indirect light\*\*. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves, but also avoid deep shade, as it might slow down recovery.
\- Place the plant in a \*\*bright spot\*\* indoors to encourage new growth.

\### 5. \*\*Patience\*\*:
\- ZZ plants are slow growers, so it might take some time before you see new growth. Keep an eye on the rhizome—if it stays firm, there’s a good chance that the plant will push out new shoots eventually.
\- Be patient, and avoid the temptation to overwater or fuss too much with it.

\### 6. \*\*Propagating (Optional)\*\*:
\- If your friend wants to propagate, they can take a \*\*healthy leaf cutting\*\* from any remaining healthy foliage and place it in water or soil. ZZ plants can grow new rhizomes from leaf cuttings, though this process can take several months.

With these steps, there’s definitely hope to revive this ZZ plant.
