# My Aloe Vera is starting to brown/yellow. I assumed it was because i…

_Postat av Melissa Utting den 2024-05-13_

My Aloe Vera is starting to brown/yellow. I assumed it was because i watered it with tap water, and we have a lot of lime in the water where i live - i am now watering all plants with rain water from a butt.
I have also done a diagnosis on the app and it has come up with ‘watering imbalance’. I am due to water in a couple of days, but the soil is dry.

Any tips? Is this correct? Should i trim the leaves?

This is happening to me as well!

It might be a case of too much sunlight and not enough water

Aloes are so finicky though, I get it, I can’t seem to keep mine happy for long

No need to cut those leaves. Worst case, it will use the nutrients and water in those leaves if it needs it. It will probably just leave them like that though unless there is an ongoing issue. Are the roots about as big as the pot? As long as they are and it’s in succulent soil then it shouldn’t be oover watered unless you are watering too often. I have heard aloe will get floppy if it has too much or too little water. (Haven’t experienced this myself as mine is outside and mostly out of rain so it tends to lean towards underwatered) But I think the sucked in tips mean it’s using its stored water. My guess would be that you should water it. Make sure the water isn’t just running straight off. If it is, it might be hydrophobic. Which would definitely explain the underwatering. But if it’s taking a few seconds to run through the soil before it runs out, and you can see that the dirt is absorbing water, then watering it until the water runs out the bottom a few times and then letting it drain should help. You don’t have a problem with the dirt staying wet all the time, correct?

I live in TX and have hard water but my aloe doesn’t care, so I assume it’s not the tap water. Did you get the plant 7 days ago, or add it to planta 7 days ago? Have you ever repotted it? That will help me narrow a few more things. If I don’t get back today, I will get back to you.😊 Today is my 18 year anniversary so I might not have time to get back until tomorrow.❤️

Thanks for your advice!
I have never repotted, i only bought it a couple of weeks ago!
I’ve now moved it from the top shelf to underneath - still gets light!
I have also water this morning and let the water drain out of the holes, it was very dry.

It’s kept in a conservatory/lean to you see - almost like a green house. It gets hot and humid in there when the sun is out - still working out if this is the best place for my plants in the summer

This looks a lot like sunburn - Aloes are very finicky with light
