# Help with my Cat Palm? Had one for about a month now. For the most…

_Geplaatst door CourtsParlor2914 op 2025-05-29_

Help with my Cat Palm? Had one for about a month now. For the most part looks healthy, nice and green and full towards the top. However, she’s been getting a few yellowing leaves with brown spots and edges toward the bottom.

Been watering regularly (1x/week) and misting lightly every few days or so. Maybe worth noting her placement might not be best, she’s behind a chair and the bottom part of her stems are blocked, but I try to give all my plants a sunbath every now and then in our big southeast facing windows.

I had a Bamboo Palm before her that died a sad death so hoping she doesn’t meet the same fate 😭

It could be an older leaf. They die off so new leaves can grow or does the bottom get any light? I love the way it looks behind the chair.

Thank you so much!! Hope they’re just old leaves. I’ll keep an eye on them. Every few days or so I’ll pull it out so the bottom portion can get some morning sun. Unsure if I’m pruning it right but I try to cut as close to the base of the branch as possible without stripping too much healthy stalk with it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've had yellow leaves with brown spots on them. Just cut it off. It should be fine.

Is it getting enough sun to be watered once per week? Make sure to check the soil before watering.

That’s a good point, thank you so much!

i’m pretty sure most palms need a great deal of bright light, in relation to other houseplants. so hiding it behind that gorgeous armchair might be bumming it out some. you could add a nice lamp behind it with a grow light bulb! to keep everything aesthetic but healthy \& practical for the plant.

That’s a great idea!! I was actually considering putting a lamp back there for a while, and I have some other plants on a shelf next to it that could probably benefit. And good to know about the bright light. Thank you! 🙏
