# My snake plant, Kaa, continues to vex me. Is he okay? Why is half of…

_Posted by Sam on 2024-04-25_

My snake plant, Kaa, continues to vex me. Is he okay? Why is half of him droopy while the other half is mostly straight? Why is half yellow instead of green? Should I cut the dead leaves (they’ve been dead for ages but won’t come off if I pull gently). He’s been like this the entire time I’ve had him (about a year). Please help!

Yellow/squishy is typically a sign of overwatering. How often are you doing that? When was the last time it was repotted?

Watering every three weeks per the app’s suggestion. Last repotted Aug 2023.

When you water is the soil dry throughout? I often don’t water mine for a month unless I’m in the dead heat of summer.

Hmm I’ll keep a look out for that but it’s usually pretty dry (top inch at least). Is it possible the “damage” could have occurred before I got the plant or am I actively doing damage now lol?

If it was like that when you got it then I’m sure some of it happened before you but I also wouldn’t say that you haven’t damaged it 😅 I would recommend letting the plant dry out completely for about a month or a little more and seeing what happens. You might need to downsize the plant and get rid of the brown, squishy leaves but that’s better than losing the whole plant! I think you’re doing just fine and with the right care it’ll come back to life \<3

Probably a mix. If you have new babies coming up watch them and see how they respond to your care and adjust based on what you see.

It looks like inconsistent watering with bouts of over and under watering. Go ahead and cut off any dead leaves. You can even cut off some of the unsightly leaves and cut them in chunks and prop them. Also check the roots and see if they look healthy.

I would deff repot, it looks too big for that pot. But deff trim the leaves and maybe fertilize and water cycle in check.

I read somewhere that snek plants like to be crowded though? He doesn’t really seem like he’s grown that much but maybe I’m just blind to it.

#### Emmj\_xo replied on 2024-04-26

Hm..I never heard of that, then idk 🤷🏼‍♀️ in the picture it just looked like it was spilling out of the pot \& falling over like it was too many leaves for one area..but anywho, I hope you get a solution 🤗

#### PortlyPothos replied on 2024-04-26

They definitely do well crowded. I always wait to repot until they are warping my pot.

lol so those off to the right that you see leaning out are actually coming from a bunch right behind the easily viewed bunch. So it turns out the at they’re actually not THAT close to the edge of the pot. The closest one to the edge of the pot is that one new sprout you can see center right and tiny.

Get soil moisture meter to check if it totally dried. Snake plant hate wet foot. Water it when it is dry.
