What’s your water situation?  
Because depending on what kind of water you use will do that

Or they got sun burnt. Normally they get burned from grow lights.

I just water it with tap water, and it sits in a window sill with some sunlight

Okay I have found the problem!!!

Plants hate tap water

If you are going to use tap water you need to let it sit out for at least 2 days before watering your plant.  
The dead parts won’t grow back but it will stop the rest of your leaves from turning black

omg stop 😭 this makes so much sense now! should i put the tap water in the fridge for a couple days?

Ah! DONT put it in the fridge!!!!  
They like room temperature water. If you use warm water our cold water it will shock the plant!
