# Update as of 2/16 It’s been a week since I repotted, trimmed the dead…

Update as of 2/16
It’s been a week since I repotted, trimmed the dead leaves off, and put my corn plant under a grow light. I’m concerned that I didn’t fix the original problem because the leaves are continuing to turn yellow/brown. Is it too soon to be worried? Is my plant just trying to recoup from being repotted? I’m wondering if there is anything else I can do to try to save this one from the plant grave yard. Looking for any helpful advice/tips. Thanks everyone!

Original post from 2/9
Please help! The leaves on my poor corn plant have started turning yellow and brown on the tips. The app suggested it was due to being overwatered/lack of light. I don’t think that it’s been overwatered because I’ve been following the watering schedule and made sure that the soil was dry before I watered it a couple of days ago. I currently have it sitting under a grow light to help give it a boost. Is there anything else I can do to help save it?
Appreciate any recommendations for saving this one before it’s too late.
Thank you!

Not sure what the problem might be but I would recommend cutting off the dead/yellow pieces to make sure the plants’ and grow lights energy isn’t going to waste trying to keep those sections healthy. I would also suggest giving the soil some pokes to ensure the soil is absorbing water properly and the roots aren’t compacted with the soil.

Good luck! I hope this helps your plant babyyy 💚💙

Is it just the lower leaves? What does the whole plant look like?

You probably already checked for bugs

Maybe try taking the plant out of its pot to see if it needs a bigger pot. Sometimes the roots become too much for the pot it’s in.

There are other possible issues if it’s not overwatered or lacking light: temperature changes, root bound, insufficient water, pests, fungal/bacterial infection.

Temperature changes - Check that it’s not near drafts.

Root Bound - Blocks drainage leading to root rot and yellowing leaves. Check the roots.

Pests - Check the soil. You will need to pull the plant from the pot. Check when checking for root bound conditions.

Bacterial/Fungal infections usually follow rotting roots.

Lack of water - It’s good to check the soil is dry before water. Ensure you check all the way to the bottom of the pot for no dampness before watering. Run plenty of water through to completely wet all of the soil. The water needs to drain through not just moisten the top portion of the soil.

Also, fertilize with diluted fertilizer. That’s all I can think of. Good luck 🍀🪴

I can tell from the picture that it looks like the growing media is separating from the pot, that’s a sign of under watering. It could be a nutrient deficiency maybe add some fertilizer. Definitely do a clean of the leaves to get rid of any existing insect/pests, and I recommend taking off the yellowing leaves so the plant focusses onto new current growth.

Have you checked the roots?? I would start there and remove any that might be bad; replant with all the yellow/brown leaves removed; spray with a fungicide just in case and lots of prayer 🙏🏽.

Thank you everyone for all of your very helpful suggestions! 😊 I cut off the significantly brown/yellow leaves. Then I rinsed it off to get rid of any possible pests and repotted it in a slightly bigger pot with fresh, new soil and better drainage. I plan on keeping it under the grow lights for a couple more days to see if that helps. Also, made sure it wasn’t near any drafts. The good news is I didn’t see any bugs on it or any signs of root rot so hopefully now that’s it’s in a new, slightly more spacious container with fresh soil it will bounce back soon! 🤞🌱
Thanks again for helping me out!
