# anyone have some effective ways of dealing with thrips? ive treated…

anyone have some effective ways of dealing with thrips? ive treated this plant twice. the first time, i used neem oil, and it seemed to work great, but i recently repotted it and they came back. i used neem oil again, but i spotted this little bugger today. i know they can be tricky to get rid of, but any help would be appreciated!

unfortunately many pests are resistant or even immune to neem oil from overuse. after you thoroughly rinse the plant to remove any pests on the surface, i would recommend using a few drops of dr bronner’s soap in water as an insecticidal spray. the soap will kill any soft-bodied insects and they cannot become immune to it since it works through mechanical action. bonus points for peppermint as it’s a bug repellent. spray the plant thoroughly every day or every few days for at least 3 weeks and they should die off. diatomaceous earth is another effective option but is a bit more complicated to apply, and can cause respiratory damage or eye irritation without proper precautions.
it’s important to be diligent about whichever treatment you choose, since thrips lay their eggs in the leaves, the soap or diatomaceous earth will only affect the nymphs and adults walking around.

thank you breanna! i appreciate the positive feedback. i’ve never dealt with thrips personally but i’ve heard they can be a real pain to treat. c.cat, best of luck eliminating the little buggers!
