# Can somebody tell me what’s going on with my Swedish ivy? It’s…

Can somebody tell me what’s going on with my Swedish ivy? It’s sitting about a ft. from an east facing window with moderate sunlight and up until a couple weeks ago has been thriving.
I went out of town for five days and watered the morning before I left. When I came back I noticed some of the leaves were turning black. It seems to have gotten worse since I’ve been back over the last couple of weeks.
I’ve kept a careful eye on it and made sure to keep up on watering schedule, etc. Does anyone have any advice? Is this from lack of water? Over watering? All of a sudden, too much sunlight or something? It may be worth noting that when we arrived home, the air felt very stale in the house due to lack of ventilation because no one was home. I have multiple other plants in the same area, along my kitchen counter and they all appear to be doing great.

I’m not sure what this could be. My initial guess was sunburn. But, the spread seems random. I also thought it could be be from damaged roots if you repotted before you left it. Another possibility is edema where the leaf cells swells and burst from overwatering.

Thanks for your response. I was browsing through other discussions and I came across a thread that was talking about fungus gnats.
This Swedish ivy was a clipping that grew quite large in the pot before it was gifted to us. There was initially a piece that fell off which my partner tried to re propagate this piece in a small jar. This clipping died and there were a bunch of gnats in the jar for a few weeks which we suspected were just some kind of fruit flies as it was in our kitchen.
If anyone knows whether this looks like the effect of fungus gnats although I’m really hoping it’s not, I’d be really curious.
