I was gifted this Norfolk Island Pine almost 10 years ago at Thanksgiving Her first winter I mis-watered (under-watered) and several stems died. I have since corrected that.

For the first several years she spent her summers outside growing big and tall in the southern sunshine. When she got this tall, she stopped going out.

Now, the tallest trunk (8+ feet)struggles. I know she needs more light, but outside she will burn in the sun and/or continue to grow taller…. Which she cannot do and fit in the house.
So…. What do I do to to help her? Do I cut the tall one down and let the short one take over? I have a mini Norfolk in another pot that I’d like to merge with this to make it bushier someday when the baby grows bigger….

WOW its so big!! I have one thats only about 12 inches and it hasn't grown much in over a year and a half. I guess the key is sunshime huh?

The key is definitely sunshine! Until it’s too big… then stop the sunshine!

These are pine trees… they grow and they grow big tall. The sun will not burn her but she will grow. Here in Florida folks have some that have grown well above other established palm trees and pines. They’re very hardy that way.

Unfortunately, in North Carolina, it’s too cold for them to just live outside, planted in the ground.

Oh my I would agree. My comment was more about getting burned in the sun. Definitely they can’t go in the ground up there. (Ps… howdy neighbor! I’m from NC)
