# Help! I am following planta’s watering schedule, but it seems it’s…

Help! I am following planta’s watering schedule, but it seems it’s not getting enough water. The roots are also growing out the bottoms of the pot a little. Do you think I need to repot it? (Also, when a new flower grows, it immediately turns green, not white. It then turns brown. Is there a reason for this?)

Definitely needs a repot with the roots popping out like that and I’d just water it whenever you do the repot and see if that helps the leaves perk up. Not sure about the flower issue but hoping fixing one issue may help the others remedy

Yep I agree

It doesn’t necessarily need repotting just based on those roots. Those roots could be chasing drainage water in the drainage tray. Remove the pot to examine all of the roots. More roots than soil or roots blocking drainage are signs to repot. Repotting too soon can lead to root rot.

Plantas schedule is not always accurate. Water when you notice it starting to droop, not when planta tells you to. I have mine on a custom schedule but sometimes its a little longer than others before it needs water so thats kinda just a reminder to keep an eye on it.

Green flowers usually indicate they aren’t getting enough light…especially if they turn brown quickly. Move them to a south facing window for winter if you can or give them a plant light and you should see better blooms in no time.

As far as watering goes, get a good hydrometer. I find even when Planta tells me to water I double check to see if the plant really needs it. Also, if it indicates a schedule where it isn’t getting enough water Planta will let you customize that schedule so it fits more with what your particular plant is needing. This time of year can be a bit tricky. With everyone’s heaters (especially gas furnaces) running, the air is super dry even in normally humid areas. (Assuming you are in the northern hemisphere). I find myself misting my spaths at least every other day in winter and being close to a heat vent can complicate things even more.

How much are you watering?

Volume... not time between

I usually water about a pint. Not entirely sure, I follow the Planta recommendation of when the water starts to leak out the drainage holes
