# My mother has a large beautiful monstera and recently transferred it…

_Posted by DannyDan on 2024-07-13_

My mother has a large beautiful monstera and recently transferred it to a 12” pot from an 8” pot yet it’s thriving. She has a self watering pot and it’s growing really quickly.
She recently added a moss pole when she transferred pots but she never mists it and I’m not seeing any aerial roots attached to the moss pole. She’s tied the main stems/offshoots to the moss pole but it’s causing the leaves to all bunch together at the top.
Can anyone help with a better solution for how to give this plant structure, while also allowing its leaves to move towards the light or allowing its growth to not be restricted? I’m not an expert on the subject and told her I’d try to find a solution. Thanks.

Don’t tie the leaves they need to be able to move around towards the light. Tie the main stem (blue)

Misting helps but only if the rooted node is in contact with the moist pole
Mine is mainly for support at the moment until I get a different one

I’d look up Sydney Plant Guy on YouTube, he has whole tutorials on moss poles and monsteras and how to train them up moss poles and how to take care of and water it all

No help for structure but I wouldn’t have this in a self watering pot. Monsteras like to dry out before they get watered again. I would also say the new pot is too much too big. They also like to be root bound. Good luck!
