# I have a fishtail fern that is getting a lot of dry spots. Noticed it…

I have a fishtail fern that is getting a lot of dry spots. Noticed it when I was cleaning it off today and I was wondering if the new growth in the middle is supposed to look like that? Thanks in advance.  
Oh and it has a few of those little holes that look like insect marks though I didn't see any insects.

I thought this was a bird’s nest fern??? Asking because I have one - and its new growth looks exactly like that, and it also has a few holes with no insects!

It may be. It said fishtail on the tag I think. 🤷‍♀️

It might be due to humidity, especially if it’s dry and not mushy. Most ferns are so picky about humidity 😬

It's about 5 feet from my humidifier. Maybe I'll try it in the bathroom. 🤷‍♀️

This is definitely a bird’s nest fern not fishtail, fishtail’s have leaflets that look like a y or 3 way crossroad alternating down a main leaf’s stem. I think it might need more light, not direct sunlight but more indirect sunlight. That will help the leaves transpire more efficiently, and will make them more wavy rather than straight. More humidity would likely help and it also might enjoy a check on the roots to verify the issue on the leafs aren’t reciprocated at the base level. I worked with these at my old job at a conservatory

I’m sure they appreciate you, I don’t think plants can vibrate at the frequency of hate tbh. That’s a human thing, although you may be projecting your emotions and energy onto them so be careful with that because they won’t thrive under those conditions
