# Does anyone have tips about sprays to keep cats away from plants?…

_Lagt ut av Caitlin D den 2024-05-06_

Does anyone have tips about sprays to keep cats away from plants? I’ve heard that I could put lemon juice into a spray bottle and dilute it- but I think that may damage some plants.

I’ve used cat grass, and giving them a plant seemed to help but I’m hoping for a solid deterrent.

Pls help

Hopefully someone will respond with a better solution than this—but I use my mom’s tried and true “spray the cat not the plant” method. Best if your cats really only bother your plants when you’re home. It’s just water, the water I use for my plants. I hit the lever once not even a full spray, and don’t point it directly at them, just near them. They get the picture pretty quickly and if they do go near the plants again just shake the bottle or reach for it and they’ll leave. I don’t love it, but it is effective… so if anyone’s got a plant focused alternative that’d be cool!

I’ve got new props out and I’m not kidding I had to spritz one of these furry monsters right after I hit post for trying to taste one 🙄

Oh nooo hahha. I woke up and my husband’s cat decided to eat a few leaves of my monstera 🥲

i’ve seen people putting plastic forks in the dirt all around the plant so the cat gets too freaked out to get close/can’t get a good foothold to eat the leaves, but i think that’s probably better for leaves that don’t hang over too much

Yeah I saw that one too- but my cats will just get the leaves. I also tried coffee grounds around the base of the plant but they just went for the leaves

If the lemon juice doesn’t work they’ve got sprays specifically made to deter animals… a good one is skeddader, there’s one specifically for cats. Works amazing.

Do you happen to have a link or a screenshot of the spray? I’m having trouble finding it

I spray my cat! She’s learned to leave my plants alone. I used a spray bottle from Walmart that shoots out a little jet stream of water. It doesn’t hurt her, but it’s quick and it deters her

They have sprays that keep pets from chewing furniture. It’s very bitter and repulsive to them. Test it before spraying all over the plants.

I found that eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint, and rosemary work (depending on whether your cat likes strong scents or not) maybe vinegar dabbed near the plant🤷‍♀️
