# Anyone ever seen this? Watered my Pepperface today and saw that it…

_Postat av LJ den 2025-07-21_

Anyone ever seen this? Watered my Pepperface today and saw that it was draining amber. No matter how much water I gave it, it was just more and more amber. I’ve only had this plant for a couple of months. It cohabits on a tray with 3 other plants. Indirect sunlight and grow light for about 9 hours a day, good airflow and humidity in the room. No pests noted. I have used the same potting soils for all of my other plants and they all drained clear. I did get a tinge of amber from my Tradescantia and Purple Oxalis (both planted in the same pot) and they sit on the same tray as the pepperface. I didn’t want to keep drowning them as they are a bit more fragile than the pepperface. Anyone able to help me? Again I have not had this plant for too long and I usually only just bottom water most of my plants it but I wasn’t able to do so today. In the picture it looks almost like coke coloured but it’s a lot more amber in person.

It could be the soil natural dyes draining. Cow manure will dye my concrete patio black taking several weeks to clear. I’m sure they added black dyes to the manure since I’ve never had this issue before. Flush the soil to clear. Then, let it drain.

Agreed. Probably just excess salts and mineral buildup from the soil or watering with tap water. It can happen when a plant is frequently bottom watered and hasn’t had any water poured over the top to flush the excess salts and minerals out in a while.

A flush with filtered water will probably take care of it (though it may not be a problem).

If no other plants with the same soil are not doing it I would check the roots just to be sure. Like sunny said, it could be it just got a larger chunk of something. But id want to make sure no rotting was happening

That’s a good point. Rot can leach dark swampy smelling water.
