# I know I’ve asked this before about my Monstera but now I think Monte…

_Lagt ut av Annie den 2025-07-21_

I know I’ve asked this before about my Monstera but now I think Monte has some type of disease. So, I’m asking for someone to please look at these pictures very closely and give me help, not just advice. I’m disabled and I cannot lift anything so I have to get help doing that. Plus, I don’t comprehend or process information, so my husband does that to. I just do not want Monte to die. My plants and my birds keep me going everyday. I thought it was too much water, so I backed off. Then I thought it wasn’t enough sunlight so I moved him. Then I noticed the leaves are still changing to brown on the tips. Now I’ve noticed something that isn’t on the new leaf that just came out. It’s bumpy and flakes off when I scratch it. It’s on some of the stalks too.

The scars look like stress marks from growth or flexing of the plant that leaves fine breaks on the plant. Sap will heal the breaks leaving scar tissue.

The leaf tips look like over watering. The soil lacks aggregates like perlite for good drainage. The soil looks dense. Soil heavy in peat moss with slow drainage and slow drying will cause rot and supports fungus gnats like the ones on your yellow sticky traps. Let the soil dry more. Add perlite to the soil mix. Avoid mix with peat moss. Use Mosquito Bits or BMC lift to kill off the fungus gnats larvae. Add a fan for better airflow and faster evaporation of the soil.🪴🍀

So it’s not a fungus!!!! It’s just overwatering. Do I need to change the soil to a tropical soil or just add more perlite?? Because I’ve already changed the watering schedule and that hasn’t slowed the browning of the leaves. I did what Dr. Planta said do. It hasn’t helped.

Be aware that Planta’s watering schedule can kill your plants if strictly followed without verifying that the plant actually needs watering. Water when the soil dries down about 75%. Check with a meat skewer or chopsticks that most of the soil is dry.

I recommend removing the pot to check for root rot (mushy smelly roots). Cut out the rot, if any. Rinse the roots with hydrogen peroxide to disinfect. You can add more perlite, coconut husk chunks, and/or orchid bark chips to increase drainage and add more air pockets into the soil.

Thank you so much for your kind advice. And…..now I’m aware of Planta!!!!! finding out the hard way. I was given Monte when he was already in bad shape, and I helped bring him back to life. Now I don’t want to lose him. (It’s crazy to talk about a plant that way but I’m disabled and can’t drive to go see my grandkids, so my plants are my grandkids in a way). Anyways…..thanks so much for your help!!! It means so much.

I have 200+ plants in my inner circle!😆 I’ve had some for many years that I’m emotionally attached to. I understand where you’re coming from!🤣
