I usually FEEL the soil before watering. If it’s still moist then wait to water \& if it’s dry it’ll need a thorough soak. With plants that tend to dry out quickly I water through them into a dish and let them sit in the overflow for about 10min so the soil has time to soak it up instead of it draining right out
