# My partner’s aloe vera (Vera) has been looking like this for a few…

_Opslået af Andrea den 2024-06-22_

My partner’s aloe vera (Vera) has been looking like this for a few months. He’s absolutely stumped and I’m giving it a try at reviving her. Both of us are novice plant parents.

She feels incredibly dry and has leaves that are definitely dead which you can see at the bottom. The pot drains and we’ve been torn between the guidance that we shouldn’t water her often and that we feel she’s exceptionally dry.

Please help a new plant mom out 🥲

aloe turns grey with sun stress — usually it will bounce back \& re-green but what you’re describing sounds a bit dire. how is the soil? do you think it might need a refresh? you can get a look at the roots this way too

Thank you! I just brought it inside. I just asked my partner and it’s been inside the same pot for at least 2 years; I’m seeing we should repot every 2-5 years so I could definitely do that.

Hard to see the soil through all of its leaves but I would say it feels not moist but not dry. We gave it some water this morning though. Added a picture!

Definitely cut away the dead crunchy stuff and repot — really well draining. I like fox farm ocean forest as a base plus extra perlite for succs. Make sure that you only water when the soil dries all the way out, but be sure to “drown it” when you do. ie: Water thoroughly so that it runs through the pot. This encourages strong root growth \& flushes build up out of the soil. A succulent fertilizer with every other water wouldn’t hurt either.

Thank you so much!! I will give this a try and hopefully share some revival pictures in the future 🤞🏼
