Hello. I brought this prayer plant home about a month ago, and immediately it dropped most of its leaves. I think it had been overwatered at the box store I bought it from. Anyway, I haven’t been able to get it to thrive and I’m wondering if you had some advice that might help. I’m very inexperienced with this plant. Thanks!!!!

The plant could be doing not well because of the stress of a new environment.

How to help the plant: check the plants roots to see if they are unhealthy. Unhealthy roots are squishy, brown or black. Healthy roots are white or tan and stable. If they are damaged. You should repot her so she has fresh new soil, regular potting soil is fine, just make sure there are drainage holes.

What to know about the plant:  
\- thrives in medium to bright indirect sunlight, not suited for direct sun.  
\- water every 1-2 weeks allowing the soil to dry out half way down between watering  
\- bathroom and kitchens are good places to keep them  
\- regular listing helps too

In my experience, Maranta also hate being moved around too much. The simple task of just bringing it into a new environment probably stressed it out. Once you find a location that it seems to do well in, don’t move it if you can help it! (Also worst case scenario - they tend to be easy to propagate if you wanted the extra insurance)
