# Hi everyone, My cat chewed up the leaves of my $ tree, unfortunately…

Hi everyone,  
My cat chewed up the leaves of my $ tree, unfortunately it has been declining since. I am not sure what to do anymore. The bottom roots are getting soggy. And I just watered it today based on “plantas recommendation” any help would be appreciated. It was coming back to life before my cat chewed the leafs again. Sigh. He finally has stopped chewing the plant now that I added  
Chili powder to it but the plant seems to be doing worst. I was told to propagate it and put it in water but also to just repot it in new soil that is dry.  
Don’t want my tree to die🫠.

That’s root rot 😔 I’m guessing that when your cat chewed the leaves the plant stopped taking up as much water because it didn’t need it and the roots were compromised. I hate to be a downer but I don’t think there’s anyway back from this

Agreed. My first one had this issue. Watered too often and my soil didn’t drain well. My second is thriving though.  
Indoor potting mix and extra perlite.

I don’t have experience with this plant, but the way the bark is sloughing off is what root rot can look like in other plants. Anyone know if it can be propagated with what’s left?

I cut off all the root rot and planted it in new soil hopefully it helps. I also cut off the very top part and tried to propagate it I’ll keep everyone updated.
