# Haaaalp! Is this the dreaded “Damping Off” disease? My parlor palm…

Haaaalp! Is this the dreaded “Damping Off” disease?

My parlor palm has been upset lately and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out why. Some of stalks have been easily pulling or falling out. Today, I noticed this white fuzz at the base of some the roots. Could it be the damping off fuzz? If so, how do I go about treating it, or is it a loss?

Hi there, I think your soil looks like it’s holding way too much water. Parlour palms like to dry out between watering and don’t like to have “wet feet”. I would prioritise repotting this palm into a well aerated substrate. For example you could do a simple mix of about 25% perlite and 75% good quality potting soil (so for every cup of perlite, use 3 cups of potting soil). You could also add chunky components like coco chips or orchid bark into the mix. Hope the repot helps your baby get back on track.
