EDIT: The piece I found already had these two leaves and a root. I think it fell out of its original plant and then I found it. I put it in soil since it already had roots, about an inch big, and the next day AFTER planting- this is what the leaves looked like. Should I just leave it alone? Does it need more sun?

Found a piece of a Lemon Lime Philodendron detached from main plant with a root at Home Depot. I took it home, put it in some soil to see if it would propagate, watered it, and now it has these brown spots and started slightly yellowing. Any suggestions?

The leaf looks damaged, maybe bruised in the roughness of a box store. Let’s see what others say. Unfortunately, I don’t think that leaf will repair itself. Good luck! 😊💚🪴

It didn’t look like that when I found it. It was all light green like it should be. Once planted this happened the next day :/

Injuries to a plant leaves don’t show up immediately. 😊💚🪴

Unfortunately, the remaining leaf doesn’t look promising either…

You don’t think either leaves will survive? Will the plant still grow new ones?

Actually, thinking about it, the root is probably fine. So I think I would leave the two leaves on and let them photo synthesize while they can. As long as the leaves are on long enough to feed the plant then the roots should be fine. Since this is a philodendron, be sure not to water until it is very dry. Best to use a stake to measure the plants moisture. Good luck, I hope you get a lovely Lemon Lime out of this!
PS I am rethinking this. Philodendrons are easy to root with water. Maybe you should pull it out of the soil and stick it in water and watch for tiny roots to begin to sprout. I’ve done that many times and it works great for Philos. Better luck!

It already has a root, that’s why I planted it in soil and didn’t stick it in water to propagate. The root is large too, it had t just grown in. I think it just fell out at the store and then I found it.

Then you are definitely on the right track! Good luck! 😊💚🪴
