What’s wrong with my plant? Please help!

I gained this plant from a family member that passed. It was green and seemingly doing well until maybe 2 days ago when all the leaves have gone completely dry crispy practically overnight?! It gets plenty of rain and the pot has drainage. We did have a few hot days but with a thunderstorm so I don’t think it’s under watered? My family member thinks maybe this is normal and the leaves will come back but I’m worried!

(I’m very new to this!)

I’d say with crispy leaves it’s probably an under watering problem, even with a thunderstorm hot days can take a damper on plants. I’d check for any signs of pests or disease too though
