# New to Planta and the groups. I’m looking for help with my monstera.…

New to Planta and the groups. I’m looking for help with my monstera. I was looking for a home remedy to help with fungus gnats and came across using vinegar to keep them away, I also saw peroxide but I didn’t have any on had. Anyways I put a little bit of apple cider vinegar around my plant and within 2 days it’s grown this white fuzzy mold like stuff on the top layer of my plant. This happened before about a month ago when I was using neem oil solution to try to treat the rust spots it had. The rust spots and gnats are gone. But is there a way to get rid of the white fuzzy mold on the soil without replanting the whole thing? I don’t wanna go out and buy more soil as it’s already a big plant and I don’t wanna shock it from repotting it too many times. Any advice and help is appreciated!

I would scrape that off the top layer of soil. If you bottom water that often helps with knot problems AND mold growing on the surface level. 😊

I was thinking about scraping it off but I was kinda scared to see if it went any deeper. I water it usually like every 7-10 days depending on the soil moisture so I know the roots aren’t rotting but for nervous. I’ll scrape it off and see how that goes. Do you have a good method to bottom watering? I’ve always just watered from the top and let it drain from the bottom with my plants but I’m open to new ways if it’s better for my plants. Thank you as well!

I usually just use a big plastic storage container (or your tub), fill 1/3 with water and set the plant in it for up to 20 minutes.

Okay I think I’ll try this instead. Thank you !!

I got mold on most of my plants after doing a hydrogen flush for gnats
I used a mixture of water and cinnamon and the mold on my plants is gone
mold on your plants isn’t necessarily a bad thing and unless it gets bad it won’t harm the plant
but cinnamon is an antifungal and antibacterial and it seems to do a good job at keeping it at bay

Thank you I’ll keep this in mind for the future and might try this first instead of scraping the top layer off. It seems like mold grows so fast in plants and usually just the white fuzzy mold but scares me because I already lost my first plant, a pathos, due to root rot. So now I do everything to prevent that of other growth/fungus
