# Even with a grow light my little Swiss is still getting yellow…

_Lagt ut av Annie den 2024-02-08_

Even with a grow light my little Swiss is still getting yellow leaves. This one popped up yesterday and is getting yellower by the minute. What am I doing wrong. I’m a beginner with house plants but I want to learn. I’ve become disabled and I’m hoping this brings me comfort.

i keep my monstera in complete shade i think the leaves are sensitive to direct light, this could also be overwatering depending how often you water.

Is it just the lower leaves? Looks like your grow light is directly above so the plant might shed its lower and older leaves that are not receiving light. Your top leaves look super happy!

Check that no pests are eating roots. Verify the soil is not wet before watering. Any cold draft or lower room temperature can signal the plant to slow its growth. Slower growth means a reduction in water usage which can lead to over watering.

i think you have mealy bugs unfortunately. isopropyl alcohol and castile soap are my go-to pest treatments

Where and what are y’all talking about and how do I find those items. Do I change the soil or throw away plant.

it looks to be a mild infestation, so with some diligence over the next few weeks you should be able to eradicate them. castile soap and isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) are available at many retailers, like walmart and target. i would personally start with the soap. once you’ve showered the plant to wash off the bugs (careful not to saturate the soil unless the plant needs water) fill a spray bottle with water and a few drops of castile soap—i like to use the peppermint because it repels bugs— and spray the plant thoroughly every day or every other day. the castile soap will kill most soft-bodied insects on contact and is also great for your skin and hair if you’re looking for more uses for it.
