# I think my peperomia is dying. I had my boyfriend water my plants for…

_Lagt ut av KCKing den 2024-07-07_

I think my peperomia is dying. I had my boyfriend water my plants for half of May while I was out of the country, and they never really recovered from being over watered and in dim light/shade. The red tint that the back of the leaves are known for seems to be very faint, and the leaves aren’t as strong as they used to be. It also seems like it takes much longer for the soil to dry between waters. Any tips? Is it ?

Might want to check the roots!

I would also check the roots and pull her out of the pot and let soil dry out she looks water logged. You might be able to save some of her

Possibly propagate any healthy parts.

My peperomia frost had a similar problem and the base detached. As a last ditch effort I stuck it in water and it is now thriving! It’s even flowering.

Definitely check the roots for rot, and even if you don’t see it, try removing the roots completely from the soil and soaking the roots in a mix of 1 part hydrogen peroxide and 2 parts water for 30 minutes, gently rinse it off with water, and gently dry the roots with a paper towel. After that, you can choose between repotting in soil or trying to keep it solely in water. It’s epiphytic, so it doesn’t actually NEED soil to live in. If you’re looking for soil to repot it, I use Espoma’s Organic All-Purpose mix for all my peperomias. And if you’re worried either option won’t save it, definitely clip a few healthy leaves off and propagate them, and absolutely cut off any too-far-gone and dying leaves so your plant can focus on new leaf and root development Hope this helps!
