Hi everyone, I’m looking to figure out what’s going on with my council tree (Ficus Altissima). I bought it in this condition and assumed it was no big deal. I ran it through the the Planta diagnosis camera and it thought it could be fungal rust. I looked up images online and found similar plants with edema, a symptom of overwatering. It was very wet when I bought it, so I’m inclined to believe that’s what it is. For people who have experience with this plant, what seems to be the most likely?

I'd probably assume it has the fungus, quarantine your plant, and treat it.

If it's the overwatering, then you shouldn't see much change from these leaves considering you are now watering it well. If it's the fungus, you might see it growing/expanding or even passing to other leaves, in which case I'd make the diagnosis of infection.

You might also want to consider issue number 3: too much direct sun! So many choices but I hope you figure it out

Hi, thank you for the response. I should have noted that it’s only been a week since I bought it. Is that enough time for overwatering issues to disappear?

And out of an abundance of caution, I was considering taking off the leaves with these spots. However, every single leaf has them, so wouldn’t I basically be killing the plant if I did that?

Unfortunately, yellow leaves (for all plants) can't turn green again. If you keep it healthy it could push out new green leaves! I'd cut off leaves if they're over 50% yellow, but you're right it needs leaves to keep photosynthesizing.

If you let the top 2-3 in dry out between waterings then you shouldn't have a problem with overwatering and your plant shouldn't get any worse (if it were an overwatering problem)

Overall though, from your pics the plant looks in decent shape! It's seems to have a new leaf growing, which is a great sign, and the other leaves in your pic are very green from what I can tell
