# I recently got a jade succulent about 2 weeks ago, I’ve watered it…

_Postat av Lola den 2025-03-28_

I recently got a jade succulent about 2 weeks ago, I’ve watered it and have been putting it in my window sill during the day can anyone tell me why the leaves are dying? I looked it up on Google and it says it could be sunburn because jade plants are “indirect sun” plants meaning sun but not too much I’m guessing, anyways I just want to confirm because I do have a spot for it that has sun just not as much because it really does look like the leaves are just frying and getting burnt. Also can anyone tell me what I should do in this situation? I’m going to reposition it and if those brown leaves don’t get better, would it be best for me to pluck them off and start new or will they eventually revive themselves when they get into a better spot. Any replies would help a lot and I am first time plant owner so I’m just kinda freaking out cause I don’t want it to all go down! Thank you guys so much again and any criticism or help is greatly appreciated!!

It does look like sunburn to me. Your next steps kinda depends where you want the plant. If you want it on the window sill, then acclimate it to the brighter light. Maybe plan on about two weeks. Gradually expose it to the new home over that period. They should be able to tolerate morning sun without issue, once it adjusts. As it gets more sun the edges of the leaves will color up to a burgundy shade. And that is what most growers strive for. It’s just sun stressed which is fine. Look up “sun stressed jade” on Google. You should find some pics.
And just a side note, if still in nursery pot, change it out to some succulent soil. If you buy it packaged, you should still amend it with more grit. Google “succulent soil mix”. It will give some options for you to choose from. Hope that helps you get started.

Thank you so much, I actually bought another pot for it as well as some soil do you think I should repot it tomorrow or wait? And another question what do you mean by gradually expose it to the new home? If I’m going to have it by the window sill should I just move it closer and closer to that spot each day? And another question idk if you know the answer but do you think I should pluck off those damaged leaves or let them fall off on their own? Thank you!

If able, I would place it the new space for longer lengths of time. If that won’t work for you, just try moving it closer gradually. If you are watering correctly then just repot when you have the time, but sooner rather than later.
As for the leaves, that’s up to you. They will not heal themselves. Maybe get rid of the real bad ones. Plus the jade may put out multiple leaves in that same spot.

You also said a reddish brown around the leaves is normal correct? That’s not sunburn just how the plant color is?

Thank you again!

Maybe give her a once over for pests, I may be wrong but this could be a mealy bug, they like jade's a lot, mine had a recent infestation, I check mine over, shower them and then use an rubbing alcohol and horticultural soap spray with water, one part water, one part alcohol and a teaspoon of the soap, and saturate the plant, whilst treating keep her away from bright light so she doesn't scorch, I repeat this once of twice a week until the little buggers are gone 💚

Yes, give her a hose/shower down 😊 then a pest treatment to be safe and keep an eye 👀, hope she recovers well! 💚
