# I bought a pink philodendron from facebook market place, but I got…

I bought a pink philodendron from facebook market place, but I got her home and realised she has some kind of infestation. (Probably why the seller wanted to get rid)  
Can anyone help me identify what they are ? These are the worst affected leaves. I'm thinking spider mites or mealy bugs but i'm unsure what the larger bugs are on the stem.  
What would be the best way to deal with it? I have quarantined the plant until I know what to do with it.

Looks like thrips and mealy bugs. The little white things if they move are thrips and the large ones look like mealy bugs.

Ummm I’d take it back to the seller if you can. I’m surprised they misted the plant but didn’t wipe away the pests. Maybe they weren’t aware?

You don’t think it’s worth saving? It was from someone’s personal collection so it wouldn’t be worth taking it back if I can’t save it it would just be going to plant heaven! 🗑️🚮

I only paid £10 for it

I wouldn’t take it out of my car. I’d rather toss it than risk infecting all my plants. Thrips are a plant growers nightmare. Almost impossible to rid of. You think they gone but they not. I spend $25 CAD each month on benificial bugs to fight thrips for the past 3 years…

Pink princess are dirt cheap in this part of the world. They sell them in big box store. Prob the same price as you paid converted $.

They aren’t as common where I am unfortunately without paying extortionate amounts, i’ve been looking for one for a while.

You may be right, it’s currently in a room on its own, there are no other plants in that room so hopefully I haven’t caused any issues for my other 40 plants 😭😅

I've never had thrips, but mealbuys are pretty easy to treat, rubbing alcohol will kill them. Good luck saving it!

Thank you! I might give it a go as I have the benefit of being able to isolate it completely.. doesn’t hurt to try

Totally agree! Theres also so many online tutorials on how to treat pests if you learn visually!
