Hi! I purchased my Ficus tree about a month ago and need this groups expertise! Is this overwatering or under watering? Fungus? Or maybe something else? I know they are picky. lol I’ve watered her twice since I brought her home. I test with a mosture meter about 3-4 inches down and water when it’s full dry at that depth until it seeps out the drainage holes (maybe 3-ish cups of water)… Thank you for any help you can give me! I’ve included an image of where she sits in our living room so you can see light.

Your living room is beautiful! My consideration, based on the first close-up picture, or the second picture in the series, would be that you might have some kind of bug… Potentially thrips? The black spots on the leaf make me think that it could be a critter. I would turn the leaves over and inspect them carefully for any visible bugs or very tiny white dots. If you do see bugs or larvae, the best thing to do would be physically wash and wipe the leaves to clear anything already present on the leaf, then start treating about twice a week with an insecticidal soap spray. You may also want to clip off any far-gone leaves to conserve energy for the rest of the plant as well as get rid of any larva present in those areas. I just finished dealing with thrips on my own fiddle leaf fig, and after sprouting two healthy new leaves last week, I think I might be headed in the right direction! It can take a while, but it feels great to see the plant healthy again!

I’ve been reading one book that made me think it could also just be adjusting to the new environment if you e only had it for a month. Definitely inspect for critters, but could also just be acclimating to the new space

What is the specific ficus variety? I think the brown spots are fungal related.

Overwatering. Shouldn’t be watering until the entire pot is dry. Also careful with moisture meters they are consistently inaccurate.

When I bought my ficus, a handful of leaves turned yellow like this then dropped. I thought it was because I was misting it with a poorly washed out spray bottle, but I think it was just an adjustment period. After about 2 weeks of yellow leaves (which started 3 weeks after getting her home), it stopped shedding.

I honestly think it’s a lighting issue. Since it’s a ficus and it’s quite large it needs more light than you think. You may need to supplement with a grow light. I recommend using your finger to check for soil dryness rather than a moisture meter
