I just noticed that my philodendron birkin’s stem is browning. For a while its new leaves have had these brown lines on them, but now one of the leaves are about to break off. She’s been doing great after I mixed her soil with orchid bark, but now… I’m pretty new to plant parenting, and any help is much appreciated.
I’m pretty sure this isn’t part of the issue, but I have some fungus gnats flying around that I want to get rid of.
Oh, and that brown spec on one of the stems is just dirt btw.

I had the same thing happen to two of my stems on my birkin. Look to see if there is any root rot by repotting the birkin with new soil to counter the gnats. And make sure to spray the roots with hydrogen peroxide (3%) to get rid of bad root bacteria.

I check a few days ago and yep, root rot. Pretty much all of the roots were rotten, so I cut them and treated the healthy ones with 3% hydrogen peroxide. At the moment I have her in water and cut off her brown stems. Thank you for the advice, if it weren’t for you she’d be all rotted. Should I do anything else, or do I just leave her to recover?

Let her rest! And then you could repot it! Just make sure its arable soil for her roots to breathe!
