# My peperomia has some yellowing leaves and then some that are brown…

My peperomia has some yellowing leaves and then some that are brown and getting crispy. Overall I think she’s healthy because there are lots of little blooms but I wanted to know what you think the problem could be! I water probably once a week when the soil starts to feel dry, it has pretty good drainage, and a grow light 12 hours a day. The humidity stays at about 45%. I’m getting some new peps soon so I want to know what I could be doing wrong so I don’t kill them all lol

Looks like overwatering or it could be getting too much sun or it could be a humidity issue .

Have the leaves possibly gotten wet? The caperata variety of peperomia don’t enjoy wet leaves. Unless you live in a really cold and dry environment, peperomias don’t tend to need extra humidity, so maybe the leaves are getting wet from the extra humidity levels?

I’d also like to say that watering once a week sounds very soon, even with a well-draining mix. I don’t water any of my peperomias any sooner than 11-14 during this season; and usually closer to at least 14 days for my caperatas. I’d suggest trying to let the soil really dry out for a bit, and considering if how you’re watering it and the humidity levels could be contributing to the leaves. If you aren’t bottom-watering it, I’d definitely start doing that to keep the leaves dry. If you’re new to bottom-watering, the next time it needs to be watered, place the plant into a bowl or container with water for 10-20 minutes, then take it out to drain in a sink or dry over a saucer.

The other possibility from the looks of the type of pot it’s in (if I’m right and it’s a glazed ceramic pot, not just a cover pot for a plastic pot) is that the glazed ceramic pot is holding extra moisture instead of wicking it away, which could be increasing the moisture and humidity for the plant, so repotting it into a terra cotta or plastic pot could help. If you’re already increasing the humidity, watering it once a week, and it’s in a glazed ceramic pot that is meant to hold excess water in for high humidity-loving plants, that combination could very likely be what’s affecting your peperomia.

Hope this helps.

Adrian, I checked out your plants in your profile. You do like jades. I have one that is recuperating from me cutting off all the branches. Didn’t like the shape and hoping to create a better looking plant . And did have two gollums but my daughter really wanted one. I also have several peps, and many many succulents. Check out my plants. I try to take good care of them.

The jade you cut down looks to be growing back great so far 😊👍 Really love the mosaic pot you’ve got your variegated peperomia obtusifolia in too. I’d really like to try my hand at making one someday for my plants 🌱

My daughter made that for me. I love it.

Many peperomias are considered to be semi succulent. Consequently their care is similar. Mine get lots of bright light including morning sun. They are in a fast draining succulent soil. And I do not water until the soil is almost completely dry. Often it is bone dry. As Adrian said, it may be overwatered. But I get the occasional brown leaf and don’t know why. Bottom watering? I don’t have the time. It may be best, but with over 170 plants I can’t do it.
