I wouldn’t want to shock my plants with that temperature drop. I don’t see the benefits. I keep my plants from cold drafts, heaters and air conditioner vents to avoid shock.

Okay so you would just water it like normal? And do you use purified or filtered water with your plants?

Personally, I stay away from using ice cubes entirely—especially concerning orchids. It’s not enough water and could cause temperature shock.

Depending on the plant and potting medium, I prefer to completely soak/drown the soil with water from the top OR bottom water. I’ve used filtered AND tap water for my plants without noticeable issue so far (tap water quality varies based on location).

Thanks!

Some plants are more sensitive than others to minerals in tap water, so check your plants needs and the tap water you receive to see if it’s ok. You can get a water quality report for your local tap water online or buy inexpensive water testing kits, like for fish aquariums.

I would stray away from using anything other than room temp water to avoid shocking them.
I have a water purifying filter I use on my sink to fill up my gallons and let sit for at least 6-12 hours in the room with my plants

Some people swear by the ice cube method and others say never ever use ice cubes. I tend to lean toward the never use ice cubes because they're so cold. They definitely prefer rainwater or at least filtered water.

Yes! It will shock the plant
