# Has anyone used Bonide’s Systemic Houseplant Control? It says it’s…

Has anyone used Bonide’s Systemic Houseplant Control? It says it’s effective for treating scale among other things. The active ingredient is imidacloprid. This product sounds dangerous and I’d rather not use it, but I am at my wits end trying to treat this scale problem on my big ficus. Help! TIA. 😊💚🪴

I do, I know other people in the community feel very strongly against it but if you’ve tried everything else there’s nothing you can do besides it. I just go outside and wear a mask, some sunglasses and gloves while handling the granules and a disposable spoon to scoop and stir it in. I also water it through to prevent any dust from rising up and don’t let the water runoff go directly into any drains. Also, I know of a YouTuber named Nick Pileggi that does the same for all of his plants and he has hundreds. To me personally, if you’ve tried everything naturally and it’s still not working it’s not the end of the world as long as it’s not edible plants, and pets and kids don’t eat it or dig their hands in the dirt. I had trouble with one of my plants last summer and at the end I thought those things ate diatomaceous earth for breakfast lol 😂🙄

PS Someone mentioned that Bioadvanced Tree and Shrub Protect and  
Feed was a good option also. Do you know anything about that? TIA.

Oh wait This is what I used and ingested by accident. Not the bonide. It did work for the plants other than the one I threw away.

I’ve used it but didn’t give it enough time to work and threw my plant away I was to worried the scale were going to spread to everything and I couldn’t handle that. I also ingested some of it cause I was smoking while mixing the poison. Lol do not do that!! I was fine after a bit.

Holy moly, what we do for our plants! I guess there’s more than one reason not to smoke, right? Who thought you’d get chemical poisoning from smoking a cigarette! 🚬 TXS for all your help and do take care. 😊💚🪴
