Is my button fern dead? I went on vacation for a week…5 days late on watering. Can it recover or no?

I don't think it's dead, but it is very distressed. The best thing to do I think is to basically cut everything off at the edge of the pot or a little bit inside the edge. Fertilize, put it in good light and cut back on watering but don't let it get dry. Watering is tricky when there are no leaves to respire.
