Hiiii! I got these for Christmas and they had a wax cover on the bottom so one didn’t have to water them. The plants started to look thirsty so I decided to take off the cover and this is what they look like now. (The red thing to the left is the wax covering)

What should I do next? And is this how they are supposed to look?

I plan to plant them in my garden if possible but I’m not sure if there is something I should do first. Like if they need to have roots first

I received wax covered amaryllis last year. After they were completely finished blooming I peeled the wax off. Mine had two layers of wax, but it looks like yours didn’t? Anyway, one of mine had a bit of mold so I allowed mine to dry a bit and then planted them in pots and the soil.

I think you’d be successful potting or planting them appropriately for your growing zone. It may take a couple or more years to bloom again as they get very drained of energy when they are “forced” to bloom.

This one of the three was the one in soil and had to be moved (mid Sep ‘23), but is doing well. Photos were taken Apr-Dec 2023.

You’re very welcome.
I have trouble adding more than one photo and it seemed like the photo of the one with mold wasn’t viewable, so I am adding this photo for your reference. Honestly, I had my doubts about its health, but they are all doing well. I am in zone 9.
Best wishes 🪴
