# Help!! This is my bird of paradise. Never repotted and has been in…

Help!! This is my bird of paradise. Never repotted and has been in this exact spot since purchasing it. For a time I had a humidifier on around it to create humidity, but haven’t used that in months because the minerals in my hard tap water were staining the leaves of my plants (I cheaped out and didn’t get the best humidifier). One day, a leaf developed that yellowish-browning you see below. (THANKFULLY, the yellowing is isolated to this one leaf….for now). Planta suggested I overwatered so I started a drought.

It’s been 23 days since it’s had a deep soak (bottom watered and only ever been bottom watered). EVERYWHERE I turn on online the internet suggests I’ve overwatered it based on the pictures I upload!! Around day ~13-16 I gave it maybe one cups’ worth of water fearing it was going too long without water. The top inch of soil is dry and crumbly. The soil feels cool beneath that layer, and is barely damp on the bottom (though I would say more dry than damp). Yet even today, the internet points to overwatering. She was doing so well and the blotch gets worse every day. Even recently grew a new leaf! 😣😥

Check the roots, it likely needs a new/bigger pot. Before you cut back on watering the soil was drying out too fast in between so my guess is you kept watering it so now it may have a touch of rot.

Should its new pot be bigger? Right now it’s in an 8in cache pot. Do I upgrade to a 9 or 10in?

Ya I’d say 9-10 inches. No bigger than 10.
