# Can anyone tell me how to better care for this plant? Got it recently…

_Publicado por Kieley el 2024-10-09_

Can anyone tell me how to better care for this plant? Got it recently from a woman who didn’t want to care for it anymore and was gonna toss it.
Repotted it into a clear nursery pot with plenty of drainage and semi chunky soil mix. When I repotted it didn’t have a very good root system it was very small for the amount of plant there was. So I chopped the long vines off and propagated them to allow the plant to focus on a smaller amount. It gets plenty of light everyday. Not sure what I am doing wrong. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The leaves are curling and drooping. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Scindapsus can be a bit temperamental. Try to give it a bit less light and the leaves may unfurl. If it’s too hot they curl. If it wants water they curl. But make sure you’re letting it dry out pretty much all the way between waterings.

I just included a pic of mine to show you the light situation. They get a lot of light but they’re shaded quite a bit by the larger plants

Ignore the one I’m trying to get to sprout on the left. That’s a whole other story…

Thank you I’ll give that a try!

The leaves usually fold when it needs water or when watering is inconsistent.

Check the length of the roots if watering is consistent. Is it a newly rooted cutting with shorter roots that are not getting enough water to the plant? Then, it will take time for the roots to grow.

Have you repotted? Roots get damaged and causes plant stress. It will settle and the leaves will unfurl given enough time.

Better lighting won’t hurt as recommended above. Mine does well in very bright indirect light or early morning and late afternoon sunlight. A grow light within 12 inches works well if the light is on at least 12 hours a day. 🍀🪴

I got it from a lady and it was neglected. I repotted it and it didn’t have very good roots for the large amount of plant there was. I chopped the plant since most of the leaves and vines were almost dead (I saved the good ones and propagated them in water). Some of the roots were rotten when I repotted so I cleaned those up and put it in a clear nursery pot to watch the root growth. This was around 2 weeks ago and they begun to droop and curl last weekend. But yes I will try some different lighting!

The chopping and propping plus repotting causes stress. The curling leaves are normal since it’s only two weeks since planting them. There is no yellowing. That’s a good sign it’s adjusting to the new environment.

Remember to fertilize at least once a month. Cut back or stop fertilizing in winter months when growth slows or stops.

Do these plants thrive with something to climb on or are they better to leave and bush out in a pot?

They do well with both. This is an older pick of mine. The stringy growth with small leaves is the portion that grew inside last winter with too low lighting. It has never been on a pole.
