Hello! I just took in this plant from my roommate, does anyone know if there is any chance of it reviving? Or is it dead forever?

Have you checked the roots?

I have not, do you know what I should be looking for?

If the roots are firm and white, then the plant is salvageable. If they’re brown and mushy, it’s root rot. You can get root rot even when you underwater, which it looks like it’s been severely underwatered. There’s also the chance it doesn’t have many roots left. You don’t really know what is salvageable until you check the roots.

These are the roots! They seem fairly healthy right? Or should repot it and trim the roots that may be rotting?

Those do look pretty healthy. In order to know fully though you need to gently separate the roots from the soil until it’s just roots. If there is no evidence of root rot- great! Regardless, I would cut all of the leaves, sanitize the roots, put it in fresh soil, fertilize, then give it time to

Do you know what it is or at least what it was? Some plants are more durable than others.

I think it was a hypoestes (polka dot plant)

If that was a hypoestes I think it's probably done. I suppose there's no harm in trying to revive it. Although, The Roots don't look too bad so maybe there's hope.
