# What’s wrong with my left (first photo) and right (second photo)…

What’s wrong with my left (first photo) and right (second photo) cactus? It’s getting soft and wet. I had one die before from this same problem :( and I’d love to save this one.

Have you checked the roots for root rot? If the roots are dark and mushy, not light and firm, they’re rotted. I can walk you through how to treat it if that’s the case

No I haven’t… how do I check?

Carefully remove it from the pot, then gently remove the soil by rolling your fingers over the roots until you can see them. If they’re dark and mushy, or crumble at the touch, they’re rotted

You should put this is terra cotta — this jar has no drainage and your soil has little perlite (maybe none?) so it’s holding onto water for too long, rotting your cactus

if you find that you do have rot, you can cut the base of the cactus off, let it callous over, and repot. PlantsWithKrystal has some great videos on this on youtube, i highly recommend checking out her videos. i hope you can keep this one with you :)

Okay thank you so much all for the help! I will be repotting it since I think it’s over watered. I’m a newby lol.

I accidentally caused 2 of my plants to root rot a few months ago, and now they are doing better than ever
