Hi, I’m remotely new to plants and have succulents and leafy plants. I currently have all in my bedroom with some next to a low light window and most under grow lights, I want to put them outside but last time I did that I had a massive knat infestation, I used traps and killed almost all of them but how do I put my plants outside and prevent Knats?

What kind? I’m worried if I get a clear one it could reflect light and burn my plants

Would diatomaceous earth work?

Is that a type of soil? I’m knew so I’ve been using succulent soil

@Ava Diatomaceous earth is fossilized algae that comes as a powder. It is extremely sharp for insects and is used to kill and deter certain pests as it cuts and dehydrates them. There are food grade versions which should be used on any plants you would eat or, if you are only needing it to be used for ornamental plants, you can use regular diatomaceous earth. You just sprinkle some around the top soil. I believe you can also mix some into the soil when planting new plants but I can't be sure so you'd have to look into that a bit more. It's best to wear a mask and eye protection when using it as it's a fine powder that can be spread onto you. It won't harm you like it harms insects but can irritate lungs and eyes if gotten into them. You also may need to reapply it every now and again because I think it loses some of it's "sharpness" to insects after being wet for a long time. However, since you'd be using it for succulents which don't require frequent watering, it would likely last you longer than other methods such as pesticides. I would definitely consider looking into it to learn if it would be beneficial for your situation.

When you water use mosquito bits soaked in water and systemic granules in the soil to stop gnats from infesting your soil.
