bought this aenonium at a gardening event for about 10 dollars. i’m very new to taking care of plants, and i find this one very beautiful so i don’t want to risk losing it. it looked healthy at first, but when i took it home and inspected it further i found that there were a bunch of black spots on the underside of the leaves. i had it in water for a couple days, changed the water out when it needed it, and it is now in soil. i have sprayed it with pest spray and have been using liquid fertilizer, i have also cut off a few of the deadest leaves on it. does anyone know whats wrong with it? how do i help it? i know its a very juvenile plant, maybe this is normal. but i dont know! 😭

Sunburn or Stress Spots
• What it looks like: Dried or darkened spots on leaves, especially older ones.
• Cause: Sudden exposure to intense light or stress from temperature swings.
• What to do:
• Move to a spot with gentler morning sun and filtered afternoon light. I think it looks like that :)

Also was the plant shop inside?

#### Bella Jean svarade den 2025-05-22

for the most part, yes. the area that i purchased my plants was inside, though pretty close to the outdoor section so maybe that was it? i dunno, but i appreciate your help and i’ll take action right now:)

I'm not exactly sure what to think but as a succulent this plant should not be growing in water. It may have suffered some damage when you were keeping it in water. As long as there were Roots when you put it into soil it should recover. When growing them indoors they require a lot of indirect bright light. It should be in a well draining soil such as a cactus soil and let the soil dry out 50% before another watering. Their main growing season is late winter into spring and should be fertilized with half strength all-purpose fertilizer during this time. Too much direct sun can cause white or brown spots.

thank you for your advice. it was much more shriveled when i had felt the need to put it in water, and now it’s doing fine on that part. there are plenty of roots, and hopefully she makes a full recovery

The name of the plant.... Lol I get it. I had one named Brown Death and another named Sixteen Bucks - that number being how much I wasted on Etsy over said plant.

😂😂 i’ve had so much faith in this plant but it seems like this is just going nowhere. your names are quite clever!

The brown spots are called “bruises”. Aeoniums get damaged easily especially during shipping. Although that was not the case for you. They do fine in very bright light. Don’t need direct sun like most echeverias do. Follow KJM’s advice. Yours seems to be very leggy for such a small young plant. May want to consider propagating. Pics are mine that were shipped. They arrived with far more bruising than should have been. The bruising is permanent. You just need to rely on new growth to look good. I’m anxiously awaiting the bad leaves to dry up on mine.
