# Hey guys! I’m open to any ideas and advice on how to make my tahitian…

Hey guys! I’m open to any ideas and advice on how to make my tahitian bridal veil fuller? Its on a shelf about 5-6 inches away from a patio, SW facing window, and get plenty of indirect bright light. I water it every 5-8 days. I see flowers pop up here and there, and the leaves look fine. But I can’t seem to get it to grow fuller. I would appreciate any help! Thank you!!

I don’t think you can get more stems in the pot. I believe lack of sufficient light is the primary issue, as PlantyAnn noted. Under watering may be the secondary issue.

You can encourage the plant to stop growing leggy using a dedicated grow light 10 hours a day.

This type of plant needs regular trimming to encourage bushy growth. You can clip off these leggy vines at the rim of the pot. The new growth should branch out starting close to the rim. It will begin looking fuller which is typical of this plant. Clean the dead leaves off the soil and plant.

Fertilize with timed release fertilizer like Osmocote. This works well on my small leaf tradescantia plant

Water when almost dry to avoid the dry leaves near the base of the vines.

Ok I will trim it more, I was only trimming the vines once every few months and only when they’re really leggy. And bases on all the feedback, I think I am overwatering it so I’ll fix that.
Thank you for the advice!!

Question- what do you mean clean the dead leaves off the soil and plant? Like put in water and propagate and then put them back into the pot? Thank you!

Well stated!👍 Removing the dead leaves and stems lowers the risk of pests and diseases.

There may be room in the pot to place the rooted cuttings if the dead leaves and stems are removed. It’s hard to tell from the picture.

Ah yes, those dried stems! I have been slowly removing them, just not completely careful not to pull out the good stems. I’ll remove and clean them out now, thank you for the recommendation!!

Hey 👋 guys! I followed your advice about removing the dead leaves/stems and trimming off trails up to the rim. I saved up some of the cuttings to propagate, see if any of them root. After I cleaned up the original plant, I added new soil and also added some cuttings (previous ones that already rooted) back into the same pot to hopefully make it look fuller.
I put everyone under grow lights and see what happens. I figured if it works and gets greener/fuller then yay, if not I’m learning how to better care of a Tahitian Bridal Veil. Thank you for those who gave me helpful advice. 🪴😍🙏

It cleaned up well! Great!

I hate bringing bad news, but, the new pot is too big compared to the original pot! There is risk of overwatering because the excess soil will hold more water than the plant can use. The excess soil takes longer to dry out by evaporation. This will leave the roots standing in water too long. I highly recommend using a pot that is only 1” to 2” wider than the original pot.

I was afraid of that, and I’m glad you confirmed it. It was the only one I had that was bigger than the original. I’ll get a smaller one and replant. I may wait for a week or so, before doing anything so it doesn’t get more shocked.
I appreciate the tip, 😥 this plant is my most challenging one so far haha. But I’ll keep on trying and learning. 🥰
