# Hello Everyone! My baby is not happy and I can’t put a finger on it!…

_Pubblicato da Neicy il 2024-02-25_

Hello Everyone! My baby is not happy and I can’t put a finger on it! He is drooping and typically stands tall I will attach a picture to show how he normally looks. I’m thinking he is thirsty but I watered him a few days ago. There is no yellowing so I know I didn’t overwater! Maybe he could use some more ? The leaves also have some brown spots at the bottom of the tree! So maybe sun burn?

what kind of light does your FLF get? i’ve had a ton of success with mine (fortunately) and i keep it a foot away from a south facing window and use liquid fertilizer when watering

also just to comment on your watering - are your thoroughly watering it? my best advice is to pretty much drown the plant in water as long as it has drainage, because you cannot overwater this way, overwatering comes from how often you water. for example, i bottom water mine with the fertilizer for about 10 minutes and then use the spray attachment on my sink until water is consistently running through the drainage holes - also this might not be the best advice for watering but i find this works well for me as it gets the soil thoroughly wet

Thanks so much! I’m thinking he needs some fertilizer! The last time I watered him I just gave a splash of water because I didn’t want to give too much! I will try that! I will need to check the direction the window is facing! Maybe I need to move him back some he may also have sun burn! Should I trim burnt leaves or just leave them?

definitely try completely watering the plant! and hopefully it will perk back up :)

as for the dry parts of the leaves - i don’t have a great answer but maybe someone else will see this and be able to comment! i personally would just leave them and not trim because id be worried i’d further damage the leaf. also, if the leaf is ready to really die, i think it will just fall off the plant? but not totally sure

Thank you so much!

Probably not sunburn unless you are rotating the plant in the window. Also, sunburn would show on the areas hit by the sun and not the tips of each leaf.

It looks overwatered. The leaves are dying from the center edge and spreading out. The stems are soft and bending. The lower leaves will drop first being closer to the root. It’s potentially root rot. Also, yellowing leaves can show up from both under water and over watering if you wait long enough without fixing the issue.

I recommend checking the roots for rot and remove, if any. Checking the roots will show the wetness level in the soil, will show if it’s root bound or if there is partial blockage at the drain holes. You can replace overly wet soil with dry soil. 🍀🪴

Everything you described is what my plant is going through! I’m nervous as I never handled root rot but I will check them and give an update! Thanks so much for your help!

Here are the roots! The soil is dry and the roots don’t appear to be mushy!

The leaves are exactly as you described and the bottom ones dropped!

Make sure your soil is not too dense, especially if you plan to water it as described above. Also, these plants need time to adjust so try not to fuss with it too much once potted because they are definitely finicky!

It’s not root rot. But, it looks root bound. I’m out of my league with fiddle leaf ficus. What’s the recommended soil for repotting? Should the roots be cut at the bottom to open it up for better drainage? I’m asking because I really don’t know.
