Anyone know why I have brown spots on my variegated plants? I have multiple plants with these brown spots. Light issue? My Thai Constellation just got a new leaf and before it even unfurled there was a brown spot.

If it's a lighting change, maybe try some silica

lovethatleaf.co.nz has an excellent article called monstera Thai constellation the ultimate care guide (and how not to kill them). It is very thorough and helpful. It also includes a link to another article about variegated plants. That was also very interesting and informative. I would highly recommend you go there and check it out.

I had the same problem. And of course, I freaked out and popped her picture into Google. Plant Dr. Google said I had inconsistently watered her. I thought I had been, since I was using Planta' recommendation. I trimmed the brown off the leaves that I could, so I could better track her progress or if it was something else. So far, so good.... although it's only been 1week lol.

The Thai constellation is more sensitive to overwatering than the green varieties so you do have to be careful. I find the planta app to be quite useful but it cannot predict the conditions in your house so you have to use common sense as well. I always stick my finger in the soil, heft the pot, or use a meter before I water. If it doesn't seem ready for a watering I hit the snooze button.

Remember, overwatering is not giving your plant too much water but rather watering it too often. Water thoroughly until water is running out of the bottom of the pot then let it drain for 15 to 30 minutes and replace it to its home. Do not let it sit in a saucer of water. Don't water again until the soil is to the appropriate dryness in this case allow 50 or 60% of the soil to be dry before watering again.

Such a small but super important distinction. I know in the past that I thought it was the amount not the the timing of the waterings. Thanks for the reminder.
