# Kinda new to this whole plant thing and decided to start off easy…

_Postat av Kira nipper den 2024-03-30_

Kinda new to this whole plant thing and decided to start off easy with some Aloe. I’ve had her for about a week and keep her in the center of my window so she gets all the sunlight. I just noticed this really dark patch base of this arm (if that’s what you want to call it). Just hoping to figure out why it’s doing this so I can prevent it from spreading! TIA

Hi there. It could be that it wasn’t used to direct sun and it’s now in shock. Something very similar happened to one of my aloes when I first moved it to a sunnier spot. You might want to let it adjust to your space, and see if it improves with time. Good luck!

It was inside on the bottom shelf at Home Depot when I got it so the definitely makes sense! TYSM

This is probably because of over watering which leads to rotted soil.

What would do is repot the plant in specific succulent soil, which has better drainage than regular soil does. Make sure it is also in a good pot, most likely, give the pot it is in right now and good clean out, make sure it is fully dry before repotting, and then add in the extra drainage succulent soil for the little guy. Hope this helps!

the pot looks a bit too big for the plant which can cause overwatering symptoms. did you repot the plant when you got it? aloe have small root systems and prefer to dry out quickly, so the pot should be as small as possible. i have an aloe that’s about this big in a 3” pot and it still has room to grow. i would also recommend mixing more grit in your soil as the current media looks to be only about 10% perlite. a well draining media (for succulents) should be at least 50% drainage material / inorganic matter like pumice and perlite
